This holiday weekend, police officers around the state will be out in full force. Their mission? Seatbelt violations.
May 19th through June 1st is National Seat Belt Enforcement Mobilization – an initiative run through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration meant to enforce the Click It or Ticket campaign. It is estimated that one in five Americans fail to wear a seatbelt while driving, even though it is against the law not to. In NY, drivers can face stiff fines for failing to buckle up. For those driving with infant passengers (under 16) who fail to buckle up, the driver will have three points charged against their driving record as well as stiff fines.
At LaMarche Safranko Law, we want you to be safe this holiday weekend. Although this initiative is only for the next 2 weeks, seatbelts should be worn all of the time. Seatbelts have been proven to save lives more than any other safety device. So please, buckle up.
