According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, the chances of dying in a car crash in a late model vehicle have fallen over a third in the last three years. According to the Institute, this is owed in huge part to new designs, safety technology, and on-board computers in vehicles.
While the trend for consumers in recent years has gone towards smaller, more gas-efficient vehicles, it is the mid-size and larger vehicles that are still the safest on the road.
The Institute reported zero fatalities between 2011 and 2014 for the following nine models:
– Audi A4 4WD (sedan)
– Honda Odyssey (minivan)
– Kia Sorento (SUV)
– Lexus RX 350 (SUV)
– Mercedes-Benz GL-Class (SUV)
– Subaru Legacy (sedan)
– Toyota Highlander Hybrid (SUV)
– Toyota Sequoia (SUV)
– Volva XC90 (SUV)
While these models fared better than most, accidents still happen, especially during the winter months. Be sure to read our recent blog about driving in the cold and snow, and stay safe on the roads this winter.
