Tostitos has created a bag of chips that does much more than provide snacks for your next Super Bowl party. For this Super Bowl weekend, consumers can buy special Tostitos bags that doubles as a breathalyzer. The bags were designed in partnership with Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) and Uber to bring awareness to drinking and driving.
How does it work?
The new “party safe” bag features a built-in sensor that can detect traces of alcohol on a person’s breath. If the bag does not detect alcohol the circular logo on the front of the bag remains green. If it does detect alcohol, the circular logo changes into a red steering wheel, with a saying that appears under it stating “don’t drink and drive.”
Importantly, these bags DO NOT tell you what your blood alcohol content is like a real breathalyzer would. These bags only tell you whether there is any trace of alcohol on your breath at all.
Should you rely on it?
Absolutely not! This bag is just a way of getting people to talk about the dangers of drinking and driving. The bag should not be relied upon to tell you whether you’re ok to drive after drinking alcohol.
One police department said the following:
If you have to blow into a Tostitos bag to know if you’re intoxicated, for the love of all that is holy, DO NOT DRIVE https://t.co/gnTcIIL7Oj

Don’t Drink and Drive!
Whether you watch the Super Bowl for the actual game, the halftime show, the commercials, or simply because you love the food and drinks, the Super Bowl is a great time for family and friends to get together and have fun. But people often forget how little drinks it takes to put oneself over the legal limit. As a law firm, who has seen the lives of many people disrupted because of charges for drinking and driving the best advice is: if you’ve been drinking at all, play it safe and get a ride home.
